We are pleased to announce a prestigious partnership with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh starting in November 2023.
As a testimony to our commitment to Postgraduate training, the College offers to place a select number of trainees who have passed their MRCP Part1, into hospitals in Scotland or the Northeast of England as a part of Medical Training Initiative (MTI) Programme. The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) is a UK scheme that allows international medical graduates to work and train within the NHS for a maximum of 24 months i.e. 2 years
Whilst working in the UK, before the end of their two-year job, the trainees are expected to complete their Part 2 and PACES and obtain MRCP(UK). They would receive an NHS salary appropriate to their scale during this time.
Both RCPE and Osler's recognize the importance of fairness and equity for all those pursuing MRCP with further UK training plans. We note that not everyone can train at Osler's (for various reasons as financial, geographical etc) and that such aspirants should still be given an opportunity to attend the interviews and if they satisfy the criteria, they should receive the benefit of recruitment into MTI.
This opportunity to enter into the NHS through the MTI scheme is open for all those who satisfy the essential criteria as mentioned in the job advert and not just for the Osler's Trainees.
The above understanding between the Academy and RCPE is synchronous with Osler's Vision and Mission statement.
Similarly, Osler's trainees also will realize that mere admission into Osler’s Clinical Primer doesn't guarantee the trainee's selection for the interview. All trainees are expected to raise their standards, not just to be able to pass Part1 MRCP, but should have the necessary knowledge and clinical experience to be able to work safely at IMT level in the UK.
The selection process will be open and transparent. Please feel free to contact us for any further enquiries and clarifications.
Please refer to the description provided by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for the upcoming jobs and the MTI programme in the documents below
Soochow University, China, 2015
The faculty is very interactive and teach us on managing patients in a clinical scenario, as well as prep us for the exams. I am happy I joined Osler's, as it has changed my approach towards clinical medicine.
Notification
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) invites applications for posts under their Medical Training Initiative (MTI) programme which will provide trainees with a two-year, fixed period of training and work from August 2024 in the UK’s NHS.
Applicants should have the skills and competence equivalent to that of a trainee at completion of the two-year Foundation Training in the UK (please refer to JRCPTB website for a decision aid and curriculum which outlines the level that trainees completing this programme are expected to have attained).
The training provided will offer exposure to a wide variety of experience in medical specialties, for example placements in gastroenterology, geriatric medicine or respiratory medicine and, for the whole of the two years, experience in acute internal medicine along with supervised experience in this on-call, out-of-hours and overnight. There may be opportunity to develop skills in outpatient clinics and in the procedural skills attained during the UK Internal Medicine Programme.
The expectation would be that the placements will provide excellent exposure to the variety of patients encountered in the MRCP(UK) PACES examination.
Applicants are expected to arrive in the UK in July 2024 and commence in post in August 2024 so that they can benefit from the induction and other support arranged for UK trainees who will also start their posts at this time. The basic salary will be approximately that of an internal medicine year one trainee.
The trainee will be based at one host site in Scotland or the Northeast of England for the two-year placement. They may be expected to visit other affiliated local hospitals to gain a wide range of experience but would not be expected to regularly travel significant distances from the host site. It is expected that two or three similar MTI trainees will be placed at each site.
These posts are not suitable for applicants looking for a long-term or permanent employment contract.
